The Walton Okaloosa Council on Aging and the West Florida Hospital Memory Disorder Clinic will be conducting a four-hour seminar on Alzheimer’s. This free seminar will be held on the 2nd of June from 9:00 A.M. till 1:00 P.M. at the Walton Okaloosa Council on Aging Main office located at 1154 Baldwin Ave DeFuniak Springs. The seminar will cover many topic’s to include the warning signs of Alzheimer’s or other dementia, how to cope, how to understand the disease, what help/options are out there, and what changes are taking place in the medical field. This will be open to all caregivers, anyone in the Medical Field( RN's, LPN's, CNA, Home Health Aids, etc), and anyone else who might be interested in attending. Certificates will be issued for Alzheimer's Disease Training under ADRD # NHAD 467 & 468. There will also be handouts on these topic’s available. Light snacks will be provided. There will be a World Elder Abuse Awareness Day seminar on the 7th of June at the Okaloosa Health Dept on Hospital Drive. This Seminar will start at 9:00 till Noon and will cover topics of what is abuse, who has to report, how to report, types of abuse and other items. You must register and certificates of attendance will be presented. The Dept of Elder Affairs has a Dementia Care & Cure Initiative, which will help develop Dementia Caring Community across the state. We are able to come out and do a presentation so that business churches, organization, and others can become more dementia aware and friendly. The Senior Farmer's Market program has restarted in Okaloosa County. We have the checks to give out to Seniors who's income under 185% of the poverty guidelines. For more information please call Kay at 850-892-8166

We will be at the Farmer Market in FWB on Lewis Turner Blvd on Sat the 19th of May from 8:00 to 11:00 to sign Seniors up and then at the Crestview Farmer Market on Spanish Trail on Sat the 26th of May from 8:00 to 11:00

 

The Walton Okaloosa Council on Aging is looking to start a new volunteer program to assist seniors who have to go into a rehabilitation center to foster their pets for short term if they have no one else to help. We will be taking application for this new program. For more information please call the main office at 850-892-8165 & ask for Kay.
